Chiropractic at Joie Chiropractic & Wellness
BEGIN your health journey with your INITIAL VISIT with one of our Dr Krissy or Dr Jen. This appointment is designed to allow the chiropractor to get to know you and your unique health journey and needs. The chiropractor will take an extensive health history to understand why you are functioning the way you are.
The initial visit starts with a detailed examination (a comprehensive, postural, physical, orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic examination) and possible referral for scans (if clinically indicated). You may also refer you to another health care professional if it is deemed necessary. For some adults, chiropractic care will not start until this testing is completed and a clinical diagnosis and individual treatment plan is made. Please come to your first appointment with any relevant Xrays or tests that you have had completed in the past as this may provide insightful information about your health. You will also be asked to complete a comprehensive health history which is important for the Chiropractor to read prior to your visit. On YOUR SECOND VISIT Dr Krissy or Dr Jen will sit down with you to discuss with you your examination findings and give you a detailed interpretation of any tests or xrays completed. This will be followed by a discussion of a recommended plan of treatment to match your health goals as well as your first adjustment. Your treatment plan will be re-assessed regularly as your body improves to ensure we are in alignment with your health goals as well as create more health goals for your future.. As your treatment continues, REGAINING BALANCE and achieving your HEALTH GOALS is the priority. It is important to keep in mind that it has taken your body some time to arrive at its current state - your biography writes your biology - and it may take some time to unwind and rewire you back to being your best! However, this process is a lot quicker than one thinks. People often report sleeping better, increased energy, better digestion, decreased pain, increased strength and overall sense of wellbeing within their initial stages of care. In every appointment, Dr Jen and Dr Krissy take the time to address any questions that you may have,

Sacro Occipital Technique
Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) is a specialised, comprehensive, gentle and innovative technique of Chiropractic founded in 1925 by Dr De Jarnette, It is so named because of the relationship between the sacrum (base of the spine) and the occiput (base of the skull).
One of the functions of the sacrum is to pump Cerebro-Spinal Fluid (CSF) from the base of the spine back up the spinal canal to the brain and throughout the nervous system. The occiput also helps to pump CSF. The minute rhythmical motion that circulates the CSF is essential to optimal health – CSF effectively acts as the circulatory system of the brain and spinal cord.
The pelvis forms the foundational support of the human skeleton. It supports the upper body right up to the skull, and enables us to transfer our weight to our legs. The spine holds our body upright, supports all of our organs and provides anchor points for our muscles. It also protects our delicate nervous system. The nervous system controls our body, and can only function normally when our structures are balanced and our pelvis is stable. This is what SOT aims to achieve.
In more technical terms, restoration or maintenance of health is accomplished through specialised integrated procedures including functional chiropractic neurology and biomechanics, nutrition, soft tissue techniques and the diagnosis and treatment of the craniosacral respiratory mechanism (CSRM).
The techniques utilised in SOT promote optimal innate healing mechanics for the spine, pelvis, cranium, organs, extremities, nervous system, brain and muscles. These techniques promote balance, neurological integrity and integrated function of the organ structure and neurological mechanism.

Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology™ (AK) is a unique health care system because it recognises that appropriate body mechanics, biochemistry and emotional health are fundamental to optimal health.
Your nervous system monitors and coordinates all your body interactions. On that basis, the Applied Kinesiology™ practitioner uses muscle testing to assess your nervous system function and find a solution to your health concerns.
In Australia, Applied Kinesiology™ is trademarked so the Australian public can identify accredited practitioners who are holistic primary health care professionals highly skilled in the assessment and application of structural correction, nutrition, cranio-sacral therapy, meridian therapy, visceral (organ) therapy, immune system function and many other health aspects.
Neuro Emotional Technique
Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) is a mind-body stress reduction technique that uses a method of finding and removing neurological inbalances related to the physiological effect of unresolved stress. NET is a tool that helps improve mental and physical health.
NET is a proven blend of the latest scientific research and centuries-old Eastern healing techniques. NET also acknowledges the relationship between the body’s emotional health, environmental toxicity, nutritional balance and structural integrity.
We used to think emotions resided entirely in their brain. Now we know other parts of the body can hold emotions too. Ever felt butterflies in your stomach before a speech, referred to something as a “pain in the neck” or felt a “lump in your throat”? Emotions are transmitting through our body in the form of neuropeptides, (microscopic proteins that carry information from the nerve to a target organ) these proteins permeate every cell in your body. If you have unresolved emotional trauma it can and will eventually cause dysfunction in a related organ system. For example the lung is affected by grief, the liver by anger, the kidney and bladder for fear. NET providers have great ability to help your body resolve physical and behavioural stress-related conditions, although it is important to take note that NET does not cure or heal you, but rather, NET removes blocks to the natural vitalism of the body, “allowing” the body to repair itself naturally.

Webster Technique
The Webster technique is a specific and gentle chiropractic analysis and adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of subluxation and/or SI joint dysfunction. In so doing neurobiomechanical function in the sacral/pelvic region is improved. When pelvic biomechanics are normalised, this creates an optimal space for the growing baby as well as optimal birth canal potential in the goal of natural vaginal childbirth.
When there is an imbalanced pelvis and in particular , sacral subluxation, it may contribute to difficult labour for the mother, caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.
